Description

NOTE: Please be punctual! Train could be fully packed, so better to be on the safer side and take a seat as early as it is possible.

NOTE: Please check the gain and distance of the hike, it may not be beginner friendly. I do not go with the people who does not complete at least one T3+/T4 hike and >1200m uphill in one day.

Sonnjoch (2,457 m) is a mountain of the Karwendel range in the Northern Limestone Alps in Tyrol, Austria. It lies between the Falzthurntal valley, near the village of Pertisau, in the east and the Eng Valley to the west. It is a prominent mountain, which dominates the valleys below it, and appears to rise vertically above Falzthurntal. Another spectacular viewpoint is from Achen Lake. It is a popular hiking peak, with a relatively easy route, so it can get busy in summer.

Good to know

Things to bring:

  • Deutschland Ticket with ID card;
  • for not-EU citizens: passport/visa (we are crossing boarder);
  • since Deutschalnd Ticket is valid only to Oswaldhütte, we need to buy a ticket in the bus for the route from Oswaldhütte to Alpengasthof Eng and back (6.50 EUR each person one way, so 13 EUR both ways). We can also try to buy the group ticket, then the final price of ticket can be lower;

  • hiking shoes;
  • extra socks;
  • windproof and waterproof clothes;
  • water (at least 3-4 l) and some food;
  • sunscreen and sunglasses;
  • DAV insurance;
  • good energy and stamina.

Optional:

  • hiking poles;
  • first aid kit.

Note:

  • Unjoining is allowed until 12 hours before the start of the event
  • The organizer is no professional guide. Participants are responsible for themselves, must do their own research about the route, and must be able to navigate by themselves (in case the group splits for some reason, for example)

Disclaimer: Hiking can be dangerous. I am not a mountain guide. Everybody is responsible for themselves. Please make yourself familiar with the route and its requirements. Additionally, you could download the map, bring a cell phone and a first aid kit.

Dear all, link to WhatsApp group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/L2YqYTLcqaQ5Z5HeJhyfXg. I would like to ask you for feedback regarding changing hiking date. It seems that weather to be definitely better on Sunday, which would perfectly match to Eng Alm expectations. I prepared a pool on WhatsApp group, so if you want to be a part of discussion, please join ASAP. All the best, Robert
