From the Neue Prager Hütte, head southwest to the highest point of the Niederen Zaun at 2,993 meters. As in summer, this is where the glacier begins. Continue southwest over the first steep section to the first glacier plateau, then over a second steep section to the second glacier plateau. From here, you can already see the summit of Großvenediger. Traverse the relatively flat upper glacier plateau, passing south of the Venedigerscharte to the summit structure. Ascend the steep southeast slope to the ridge with the pre-summit (ski depot). Follow the narrow snow ridge to the main summit.
Alternative: From the Schlattenkees to the Venedigerscharte at 3,400 meters and descend north to the Untersulzbachtörl (2,855 meters), keeping to the right under the ridge of the Kleinvenediger. From there, head east over the beautiful slopes of the Viltragenkees down to the valley floor, through the narrow valley (beware of avalanches from the steep flanks) and out to the Gschlößtal and the Matreier Tauernhaus.
