Description

Please contact me first before joining!
I will change the group size accordingly.

Finally summer has reached Watzmann, so it’s safely possible to do the traverse.
In order to enjoy this hike as much as possible, it’s scheduled from Sunday to Monday. This is mostly for avoiding the masses, but also for easier reservation management on the hut.
You need to take Monday off!

I will update this info in the coming days and later set up a WhatsApp group

The plan
Sunday:
- got to Schönau by train and bus, 08:56 Munich, 12:17 Schönau
- have a fairly easy hike up to Watzmannhaus, optional stops at Grünsteinhaus, Schapbachalm and Mitterkaser
- grab a bite and a beer at Watzmannhaus, chat and chill
Monday:
- get up early, have breakfast
- do the traverse
- hike down to St. Bartholomä
- have a swim in pristine Königssee (optional)
- take the boat to Schönau ~12€

Things to know:
- there are no showers at Watzmannhaus and it’s unclear if you can replenish your water supply easily
- on day 2, there are no huts on the way, just two inns at the end in St. Bartholomä

Things to bring:
- mandatory: sleeping bag liner = Hüttenschlafsack (padded sleeping bags are not allowed) or buy it at the hut
- mandatory: cash for food/drinks at the huts (and for the stay if you reserve for yourself)
- for the hut: slides, small towel, headlamp, earplugs
- you should really know yourself what hiking gear to bring
- enough food and water especially for day 2
- change of clothes
- power bank
- swimwear and towel for Königssee (optional)

If you want to join, I prefer if we have hiked together before. It’s not a must, however.
You must be absolutely surefooted, have no fear of heights or vertigo and be able to keep up 400-450m/hr of elevation gain!
I will need you to advance the cancellation fee for the hut of 35€ to me, which I’ll happily refund if not needed. Otherwise you can of course reserve for yourself. The regular fee is 15/29€ for DAV members/non-members.

Please check the FAQ for Watzmannhaus
