Weather forecast: Sunny, not too warm, perfect for hiking. Elm

Note: This hike is not suitable for beginners.

How to get there:

Journey by public transport: ZH HB - Ziegelbrücke - Schwanden GL - Elm, Dorf

The train (IR35 to Chur) departs at 07:12 from ZH HB.

Journey by car: Use gps. Note: This is not a roundtrip.

Meeting point:
8:50 AM - Elm, Dorf bus stop

Hike:
  • The hike will last ca. 7-8 hours with a lot of viewpoints.
  • Short lunch break close to the Ärbser Stock.
  • The pace will be medium/fast (>500m gain/hour) with enough time to admire the landscape,

If you have no clue what this represents, here are some hints:

  • Times you see on hiking signs in Switzerland assume a pace of 300 to 400m gain / hour
  • Uetliberg from Albisgütli is 300m gain: If you make it in 30 min or less, your pace is at least 600m gain / hour
  • If you're a regular runner / biker you should be able to maintain a pace >= 600m gain / hour
  • If you don't do any running / biking / cardio you might struggle starting from 500m gain / hour

In case you're not able to keep up with the pace, we might split up.

Equipment:
  • Proper hiking boots, poles, snacks, enough water, proper clothes acc. to the weather, sunscreen, tick spray, good mood and fitness.
