Ellmauer Halt is the highest peak of the WilderKaiser area and once you made it there, the views are just great. Meeting at Wochenbrunner Alm, it takes us about 1 hour to reach Gruttenhütte and another 45 Minutes to the entry of Gamssänger Steig (Via Ferrata), classified at B and suitable for beginners. Climbing up this Klettersteig, it takes about 3 hours to reach the summit, so better bring some lunch.
On our way back, we can stop at Gruttenhütte in the afternoon and should be back at Wochenbrunner around 17:00.
This destination is not reachable by public transport, so try to carpool instead. Crossing the border from Germany (A93) to Austria (A12), make sure to exit Kufstein Süd the latest. If you have not purchased an AsFinAG toll permit (pickerl), missing the exit Kufstein Süd will result in a hefty fine for freeway use.
