Description

Ellmauer Halt is the highest peak of the WilderKaiser area and once you made it there, the views are just great.  Meeting at Wochenbrunner Alm, it takes us about 1 hour to reach Gruttenhütte and another 45 Minutes to the entry of Gamssänger Steig (Via Ferrata), classified at B and suitable for beginners. Climbing up this Klettersteig, it takes about 3 hours to reach the summit, so better bring some lunch.

On our way back, we can stop at Gruttenhütte in the afternoon and should be back at Wochenbrunner around 17:00.

This destination is not reachable by public transport, so try to carpool instead. Crossing the border from Germany (A93) to Austria (A12), make sure to exit Kufstein Süd the latest. If you have not purchased an AsFinAG toll permit (pickerl), missing the exit Kufstein Süd will result in a hefty fine for freeway use.

Good to know

If you are a via ferrata beginner with no experience, please read further because this part is meant for you:

I can pick up people in Holzkirchen (S3, arriving at 7:46), its 10 Euro per person. So far, Camille and Helene have voiced interest, anyone else requiring a ride?

Can anyone spare a space in their car. I am located in Vaterstatten so anywhere as a pick up spot in Munich should be fine. Thanks

Just as a reminder for our beginners - you need a helmet, a KS-Set, a climbing belt and a resting sling ( continous loop and carbine hook ) - if you have any questions, post it here or join our whatsapp chat

Hi all, I am new to the group and would be interested to join. Does anyone have a spare KS-Set? I did KS before (at Grödner Joch) but don't have my own. I would be able to drive and have free seats in my car too.
