Description

This hike starts less than three hours from Munich, but climbs up to summits of 3004 m (Furgler) and 3035 m (Hexenkopf), higher than anything in Germany! While Furgler is one of the most popular mountains in Austria, the northern approach is much less trafficked, and Hexenkopf is far enough from the tourist resorts to be much quieter. The approach is a grade I scramble (UIAA).

For accommodation, Ascher Hütte currently has 13 free spaces, which cost €10-€13, plus €35 food. Everyone who has registered should have booked theirs. I believe breakfast is not served until 8 am, after we will have left, although they may give you a food parcel on Saturday night on request if you pay for dinner and breakfast.

The first day is 8 km and 1200 m, from the valley up to the hut. The second day is 24 km and 1680 m ascent, 2800 m descent. However, the final 5 km and 700 m of descent can be avoided if we take the lift down (€7, 17:00 latest). For this reason we will set out early (possibly 6:30) on Sunday.

Good to know

Accommodation

We will be staying at the Ascher Hütte. I have enquired about prices, but for under 25s it looks like it should be €10 without food. Please let me know when you have booked.

Transport

This is a car pool event, so all drivers are very much appreciated! It is around 2h30 – 3h drive from Munich, so I would propose leaving Munich around midday, and starting walking when everyone has arrived. I don't know how much parking will be, but it doesn't look worth buying a vignette, the Austrian autobahn wouldn't save more than around ten minutes of journey time.
