Ellmauer Halt (2,344 m) is the highest peak of the Wilder Kaiser massif and one of the most famous peak in entire Kaiser mountains. The vies from the top are so beautiful.

Ascent: The hike starts at the parking lot close to Wochenbrunneralm. From the parking lot follow the marked path toward Gruttenhütte. The path is easy at the beginning but becomes steeper before Klamml klettersteig. Note that this route avoids the Klamml klettersteig (C/D).

From the hut follow the path to Ellmauer Halt via Gamsgängersteig. The path is partially secured with rope. Sure-footedness and no fear of height is required. The klettersteig is easy (B). The key points are the 74 brackets on the Jägerwand as well as the ferrata before the biwak. From biwak the summit is 5 min. The route is very crowded in summer days and there is a risk of rockfall, so helmet is highly recommend.

Descent: Follow the Gamsgängersteig back to Gruttenhütte and then marked path to the parking lot. No difficult sections from the hut to the parking lot.
