Note: Falkenhuette is closed until June 2020.
An easy hike from Eng via Falkenhuette, which has amazing views of Falcon group. One could also extend the hike to Steinfalk although that requires some scrambling of grade I.
Random fact: The route has awesome views of Laliderer wand, which looks very impressive, and is famous for the largest rock rescue in the history of Karwendel (with a happy ending!!).
Reaching the start point: The best way to reach the route start point is take a Bob train from Munich to Lenggries, and then take bus 9569 from Lenggries to Eng. One has to careful with the bus schedule as there are only two buses depart in each direction per day.
Ascent: From Eng, we follow an asphalt road. After reaching the biergarten, we turn right, and start gaining elevation slowly. After 20 minutes or so, we enter the forest. The elevation is still gentle and follows a zig-zag. Once we are out of the forest, we can see the laliderer geoup on the left of us. From here follow the direction to Falkenhuette.
The route to Falkenhuette first goes down, then relatively flat before becoming upslope again. From the hut, Mahnkopf is only an hour away, however the route starts becoming tricky from here. Once has to be careful about walking on narrow trail, which usually has slippery grass on the edge. The final part is quite steep, and is of difficulty T3. From the peak, one can enjoy the view of Falcon and Laliderer group.
Descent: The same as ascent.
