Scheffauer (2111 m) forms the western buttress of the Wilder Kaiser and is one of the most frequented summits in the Kaiser [wikipedia]. This route is the easiest route to the peak, still in my opinion some sections are T4.

Ascent: The hike starts from Parking lot in Hintersteinersee. After walking around 10 minutes on the road, turn left at Barnstatt parking to the left. Initially follow the wide forest road which becomes steeper and narrow after some time. Soon you arrive at the hut Steiner Niederalm.

From the hut path becomes steep and goes through the forest. After a long gravel traverse you will arrive the Scheffauer einsteig. From here the path (track no. 814) becomes very steep and sometimes exposed. Sure-footedness and no fear of height required. Sometimes the path are secured with rope. After arriving at the saddle, turn left. The peak is 10 minutes from there.

Descent: Same as ascent.

Note: Via ferrata enthusiasts can follow this route (grade A/B).
