Großvenediger (3666 m) is the fourth highest mountain of Austria and the highest in Venediger group. The peak is surrounded by glacier, the peak itself is on glacier. Although the ascent is not difficult, you must have experience in glacier traversal and using ice axe and crampons. The glacier is full of crevasses.

Ascent: From the parking lot, it's very easy hike to Johannishütte, then the path becomes slightly steep and narrower till Defreggerhaus. There is also a taxi service from parking lot to the Johannishütte, that can save you 650 height meters.

From Defreggerhaus you will arrive at the glacier in 15 minutes. Turn towards left and make slight descent from the sign post. There are some crevasses in the beginning and the glacier can be icy in summer. The last part to the summit requires walk on narrow and icy ridge, you have to be very careful here.

Descent: Same as ascent.
