This is an easy hike, but during wet conditions it could be quite challenging, as it involves walking on a grassy ridge.

Hönig is a 2034m high mountain in Lechtal alps, from where one can enjoy nice views of Thaneller and Bichlbach.

Reaching the start point: There are direct trains from Munich to Bichlbach-Bergwang (Werdenfels or Bayern ticket), which is the start and end point of this hike. Make sure to press the button or inform the ticket checker about your destination because the train does not always stop at all stations.

Ascent: From the train station turn left, and walk through the village. After the village, the asphalt road turns into a forest road, which has a stream on its right. Follow the forest road all the way until you start seeing some huts, cows and a stable. Here the road bifurcates. Take the left turn. Soon the wide forest road turns into a narrow path, which is steep and slippery at times. There is a stream on the left of the path. Also, one could see the Roter stein in front.

Follow the path all the way until you reach a saddle point. Here the route bifurcates again - the left turn leads to Roter stein, while the right turn leads to Hönig (Signpost says Alpine-Hönig). After a series of zig-zag, we are already at pretty high elevation with views of surrounding mountains. From here, one needs to walk along a "not so wide" grassy ridge, which could be quite challenging in wet conditions. After approximately 30 minutes of traversal, we reach the peak.

Descent: Continue along the ridge all the way until it leads to a very long zig-zag. Follow it all the way until you reach a signpost. From here turn right and follow the gentle path to Kogelhuette. From Kogelhuette, the path is again a forest road. At the end of the forest road, we encounter highway. Turn right here and walk along it a bit before turning right again, which will lead to the same place with huts, cows and stable. From here the route is the same as what we took during ascent.
