Schafreuter (2102m) is a classic mountain hike in the Vorkarwendel. It is a dominant mountain with magnificent views to all sides (Starnberger See via Ammersee, Walchensee and Sylvenstein to the Grossglockner, Großvenediger, the entire Karwendel group and, on the ascent and descent, the Wettersteingebirge including Zugspitze).
Ascent: From "Oswaldhütte" always follow the signs to Schafreuter. The first ~700m of the trail is on this forest road, then over a narrow path under super view first still right and then left uphill the signs towards Schafreuter. Don't follow the signs to the Tölzer hut, this is the way back. Then the ascent becomes quite steep, sometimes it's also muddy. You might have to use your hands at few points. Soon the summit is visible and you can enjoy beautiful views from the peak.
Descent: To the south of the summit you can see markings, some safety ropes at the beginning, but not difficult or dangerous leading to Tölzer hut. Secret place: Sunbeds directly below the Tölzer hut ;-)
Note: This route is very similar to traditional route except it includes the optional peak and Delpsee and finishes in Fall instead of Oswaldhuette.
