Grosser Traithen is one of the highest mountain in Mangfallgebirge. On the rocky summit stands a cross, the panorama is comprehensive and reaches in the south up to the peaks of the central alpine chain with Grossglockner, Großvenediger and Zillertaler Alps. Particularly noteworthy is the view over to the striking Kaisergebirge and to Wendelstein in the north [wikipedia].

The route is medium hike. In winter, the part between Grosser Traithen and Steilnerjoch should be avoided because there are skiers.

From recent updates, this route is very slippery and parts of this route are not maintained.

By public transport: The easiest way to reach the starting point of the hike is to take the BOB train from Munich to Bayrischzell. The hike starts from there. You can buy BOB MVV ticket and travel in groups to save money :-)

By car: There are plenty of places to park your car in Bayrischzell. You can even drive up to Walleralm, and avoid the initial hike. Address for navigation: Oberes Sudelfeld 2, 83735 Bayrischzell.

Walleralm: opening hours: April to October. Please check there website or call them to get the latest information about there opening hours.
