Spitzstein is a relatively easy peak with nice views of Chiemgau Alps and Bavarian Alps. One of the highlights of this peak is the chapel on the peak.

Reaching the start point: From Munich take Meridian train to Bernau am Chiemsee, and from there take bus 9502 to Sachrang Ort, which is the start and end point of the hike. Note that the bus stop for 9502 is approximately 400m from Bernau am Chiemsee train station.

This hike is not super public transport friendly. On weekends, this creates extra constraints as the bus runs only once in each direction.

Ascent: This is an easy hike in summer, however, in winter it could be challenging. The first part is along a wide mountain road, which has some steep (but short) sections. Once the mountain road ends, we have a way through forest, which is not always visible. Ideally, one should have a sense of direction as chasing the actual path in deep snow could be exhausting. Once the forest clears, one can enjoy the nice views. After a 10-15 min walk from there we reach Spitzsteinhaus (which is usually open throughout the year). The route from Spitzsteinhaus to the peak is steep, but easy. This part is also frequented a lot (even in winters), so path is very easy to locate.

For the descent one can also use Nordwandsteig, which has an easy B-grade via ferrata (not recommended for beginners in winter).
