K2 (3253 m) is located in the rear Pitztal, belongs to the Kaunergrat and is mostly climbed from the Rifflsee via the Mittlerer Löcherferner. Since the Pitztaler K2 is a subordinate peak and much smaller than its immediate northern neighbour, the Rostizkogel (3394 m) and southern neighbour, the Löcherkogel (3324 m), it is usually not marked in maps with its name, but only as a survey point. However, K2 is considered a very worthwhile destination among ski tourers/Snowshoers and is heavily frequented on fine weather weekends in late winter [wikipedia].
The name of the mountain comes from its outward resemblance to the second highest mountain in the world, K2 in the Karakorum [wikipedia].
Route is suitable with snowshoes as well.
