Auerspitz is a 1810 meter high mountain in the Mangfallgebirge, a part of the Bavarian Prealps.
Auerspitz is located on the municipal territory of Bayrischzell in Bavaria not far from the district of Kufstein in the province of Tyrol in Austria. The summit view in the south is dominated by the rugged north face of the Hinterer Sonnwendjoch. In the distance you can also see the Wilder Kaiser and the Grossvenediger. To the north, the peaks of Rotwand, Hochmiesing, Ruchenköpfe and Soinsee are in the immediate vicinity. Towards the east, the Wendelstein is also visible [wikipedia].
Starting point for the ascent paths is a hiking car park at an altitude of 820 m three kilometres south of Bayrischzell on the connecting road to the Austrian community of Thiersee. A first route leads past the Sillberghaus at an altitude of 1040 m, which can be reached after only half an hour. This is also the steepest part of the route. The Sillberghaus is a privately run restaurant, which is only open on weekends and public holidays and has 30 overnight accommodation places. Behind the Sillberghaus you follow the wide road in the direction of the Rotwandhaus, whereby the path usually leads over open terrain and passes the Wirthsalm and later the Sandbichleralm. North of the path rises the 1688 m high and predominantly wooded Maroldschneid. Behind the Sandbichleralm the road ends and the path leads over narrow mountain paths first through a basin then over a ridge spur to the summit of the Auerspitz.
The descent path leads from the summit through the Bayrischzeller Höhenweg to Soinalmen at 1400m. Behind it you pass the Soinsee and the rugged southern walls of the Ruchenköpfe.
