Teufelshörner are two mountains in the Berchtesgadener Alps, composed of the Großer Teufelshorn (2363 m) and the Kleiner Teufelshorn (2283 m). Due to the long ascent, the Teufelshörner are rarely climbed, both peaks have a cross on each side, and they offer a beautiful panoramic view of the Hochkönig, Watzmann and the Tennengebirge, among others.
Ascent to Wasseralm: The route begins at the Saletalm, which can be reached by a one-hour boat trip from Königssee. The path goes through beautiful Obersee, leading to the end of the valley called Fischunkel, where the impressive Röthbach waterfall located. Röthbach waterfall is the highest waterfall in Germany (470 m). After arriving at the end of valley the path becomes very steep and narrow, sometimes secured with ropes and steel hooks. After that the path becomes gentle and you arrive at Wasseralm. You can spend the night here, as the entire ascent is long and strenuous in one day.
To Großer Teufelshorn: The path is well marked and easy to navigate. In the end the path becomes narrow and very steep. It requires some scrambling up to grade I. Sure footedness and no fear of heights is necessary.
To Kleiner Teufelshorn: From Großer Teufelshorn you continue towards the saddle point between Großer Teufelshorn and Keiner Teufelshorn. From there there is UIAA II scrambling on some exposed rocks (only one place). Soon you arrive at the Kleiner Teufelshorn. The path is not marked. In the beginning it might look like the gully on the left is easier but the actual path is on the right as shown in the photo.
Descent: From Kleiner Teufelshorn you continue on the ridge for a while then yo arrive at the meadow where you turn right. The path is not well marked, there are stone cairns to guide to Wasseralm. From Wasseralm follow the same path as ascent.
