The Rheinwaldhorn, called Tula in Ticino, is the highest peak in the Adula Alps at 3402 meters. Located in the central Alpine ridge between the Lukmanier Pass and the San Bernardino, the mountain dominates the border area between Graubünden and Ticino and forms the point of contact between the Italian, German and Rhaeto-Romanic languages in the Alpine region. The Rheinwaldhorn directs four large valleys in the main cardinal directions and forms one of the main spring areas of the Rhine and Ticino.
The mountain range, which rises from north to south in a lectern, culminates in a pyramid-shaped snow and firn peak.
Especially towards the north, from the Länta (Vals) in Grisons, the Rheinwaldhorn shapes the landscape with a comprehensive glacier coat.
The mountain to the south is just as impressive but completely ice-free, where a steep wall breaks into the upper Val Malvaglia.
The west and east flanks of the mountain present themselves much more gently, but also packed with firn and ice at higher altitudes.
In summer and winter, the
Länta Hütte SAC (Vals), Zapport Hütte (Hinterrhein), Capanna Adula (Olivone) and Capanna Quarnei (Malvaglia) offer ideal starting points for easy to demanding ascents. The number of routes is large, but in any case requires complete glacier equipment.
