Bettlerkarspitze (2268 m) and Schaufelspitze (2306 m) are rather lonely peaks in Sonnjoch group. Schaufelspitze has a summit book from 1994. The combination of Bettlerkarspitze and Schaufelspitze is done over a sharp exposed ridge that requires scrambling up to grade II.
From Parking to the Plumpsjochhütte: The starting point of the hike is parking lot P8, and there is no parking fee. From the parking the path is easy (T2/T3) hike and it requires 1.25 to 2.5 hours depending on pace.
From Plumpsjochhütte to Bettlerkarspitze: From the hut to Vorgipfel Bettlerkarspitze is well marked route. I would rate this section as T4+. From Vorgipfel to Bettlerkarspitze haupt gpfel, it gets difficult to find path. There are faint yellow signs and stone man to guide your way. Before the summit there is exposed section with fixed rope. Some descriptions rate this section as III+ but I would say its rather II.
From Bettlerkarspitze to Schaufelspitze: From Bettlerkarspitze you have no marked route and also rare stoneman and the rock becomes unstable at many points. However, if you are attentive, you can guess the path easily. You always have to stay on the ridge. Before the summit Schaufelspitze, there is some exposed sections to climb.
Schaufelspitze to parking lot: From Schaufelspitze you can see the entire North East ridge which you have to follow for the descent. There are stone man, so you can follow the path. When the ridge is finished, the path goes in the dense forest with bushes and trees (basically there is no path) and its not maintained.
