Weißkugel (3,738 m) is the third highest mountain of Austria and it's the highest point of the border between Italy and Austria. The peak is not well known compared to Wildspitze. All normal routes meet at Hintereisjoch. We started from Kurzras via Schöne Aussicht Hütte - Rifugio Bella Vista.
Ascent: From Kurzras parking lot it's an easy hike till the hut Schöne Aussicht Hütte - Rifugio Bella Vista (1.5 - 2 hours). The hut is very modern equipped with Sauna and also open most of the year.
From the hut follow the signs towards Weißkugel. The path goes through a ridge before arriving on the Hintereisferner glacier. There are some steep sections in the glacier (sometimes also icy). The last part to the summit is on a ridge that requires UIAA I+ climbing on exposed parts.
