Amazingly scenic tour around one of the most famous lakes of Dolomites: the Sorapis lake.
After parking at the Passo Tre Croci, we take the less crowded path n°213, a large track going slowly but steadily up through the woods. When we reach a crossroad, we turn right to keep the Sentiero n° 213. In alternative, we can proceed along a parallel path on the gravel, just on the base of the mountain to our left.
At the next crossroad, we follow the sign for Sentiero n° 215 towards Sella Punta Nera. This path must be walked carefully, as it winds through a steep scree field with a few points where large rocks must be climbed. After reaching the end of the scree, we turn left up towards the Sella Punta Nera itself. It is possible to climb Punta Nera (2847 m), but there is no obvious path.
We cross the Sella and start going downhill along Sentiero n° 215. Here there are mostly big and small rocks, and some sure-footedness is required. Some small metallic ropes and ladders help in the most critical points.
We reach the bottom of the scree to find a large flat rocky valley. We point left towards the Sorapis lake, famous for its crystal blue color, and the Rifugio Vandelli. Some more scree leads to these goals.
The way back goes along the rest of the Sentiero n° 215 in direction Passo Tre Croci. This path is usually very crowded, as most tourists only take this back and forth to reach the lake Sorapis. However, it is quite rocky and at times slippery, so some caution is necessary.
The end of the hike is at the Passo Tre Croci.
