Monte Pelmo (3172 m) is one of the main peaks of Dolomites. Shaped like a gigantic seat, Pelmo is known in the local language as Caregon del Padreterno, the Throne of the Eternal Father. Legend has it that, after he had finished creating the Dolomites, God was so tired that he sat down on Pelmo to admire his handiwork [dolomitiunesco.info].
Topo: Normal route
Ascent: From the parking lot its an easy and flat walk to the Rifugio Venezia that can be done by bike as well. I will divide the further route in two sections:
Ball ledge: From the hut follow the signpost towards Monte Pelmo Via Normale. The path goes on the steep gravel but after 10-15 min, you will arrive at the entrance of the climbing section. The entrance is marked with red arrows and dots. The ledge is very easy to follow there are cairns, but some parts are very airy and exposed. Some of these parts are secured with rope. The layer finishes at the bottom of a steep slope of gravel and loose stones.
Via Vant to the summit: Follow the cairns on the steep slope of gravel until you arrive at a plateau. There are some holes on the plateau as there used to be glacier. Final part is on the South ridge that includes grade (I-II) scrambling on exposed sections.
Descent: Same as ascent.
