Gehrenspitze is the third highest mountain in the Tannheim group, and offers great views of Tannheim and Lech valley.
The normalweg is mostly T3, but requires some grade I scrambling near the peak.
Reaching the start point: There are direct regional trains from Munich to Reutte in Tirol. This is the start and end point of the hike. The cheapest option is the Werdenfels ticket.
Ascent: From the train station, there is approximately 4 km long walk along the city and fields, until the real hiking starts. The first part of the path is through forest, which is steep at first, but becomes more gentle soon. There are not many marks, but the path is fairly visible and easy to find. There is also a bike path leading to the hut, which has more gentle slope.
After the forest, we reach the hut Gehrenalm. From there, we first go to the left until we reach the plateau Gehrenjoch. From there we turn right and follow the path until we reach a chimney. Mostly the stones are firm, but there are 1-2 places in the chimney with loose stones. After climbing the chimney, turn right and follow the path again to the peak.
Descent: The same as the ascent.
Variants: It is also possible to extend the route to kleine Gehrenspitze. The path between grosse and kleine Gehrenspitze is a bit exposed, but the technical difficulty never exceeds T4(I).
The other related and more difficult routes involving Gehrenspitze:
1) Gehrenspitze hahnekamm ridge (T4)
Gehrenalm (1610): Also offers Tiramisu :)
