This is one of the most beautiful, scenic hikes that has waterfalls, streams, two mountain lakes, 2 glaciers and a glacier lake. A medium difficulty hike of T3 tech.difficulty - one needs sure footedness , head for heights and comfortable going on some steep and more exposed sections when going towards glacier (Hundsheim).

If you are not comfortable with such exposed sections that involve more hiking/mountaineering experience and knowing how to read weather cues / sky because weather changes in the Alps pretty fast, I suggest to go to the Blau Lacke lake which is about 20 mins above the Sulzenauhütte hut and enjoy there and then also go afterwards to Grünausee.

Description:

Medium difficulty tour to Blaue Lacke. Hundsheim peak  and Grünausee lake, Stubai Alps, Tirol. To do it in one day including breaks you need a good fitness level :)

Tour starts from bus stop next to Grawa Alm. But it is more convenient to go by car and park near Grawa alm.

Ascent: From Grawa alm  the trail goes over Wilde Wasser Weg. This part of the route has amazing view of Grawa watterfall and also has fun sections of going through the woods and over wooden ladders. Following Wilde Wasser Weg one gets to Sulzenau Alm and sees a plateu with really beautiful view of a Hohe Sultze but also Sulzenaukogel in the back with Sulzenaubach coming down the mountain (watterfall) and the hut - Sulzenauhütte next to it. The ascend from Sulzenalm to hut is about 45mins.

After reaching the hut continue to Lübecker Weg to Blaue Lacke. From Blaue Lacke continue Lübecker Weg till the Hundsheim.

At about 300hm above Blaue lacke there is a juntion with 2 options - saying Alperer Feiger, Aussichtspunkt Hundsheim or to continue Wider Freiger and Müllerhutte. This route follows the easier route to Hundsheim via Wilder Freiger.

If there is still a lot of snow I would recommend continuing Lübecker Weg towards Wilder Freiger as it doesn't involve climbing portions and is less challenging that the one towards Alperer Freiger.

If you chose to go to Hundsheim over Alperer Freiger route, you can do a loop and come down next to Fernerstube glacier. Also, make sure you have a helmet for this portion it is rather exposed the last 100m and some scrumbling knowledge is required.

After crossing a steep slope, one can continue Wanderweg 136 Stubai direkt up or use the one parralle a bit closer to the glacier. Be mindful that if it has rained or after the winter the snow is still melting this part is rather muddy and clay-like so it can be less enjoyable. Try to go over smaller snow field or patch looking areas that are more sturdy or towards drier areas and where more rocks are.

This part of the route asks for focus and being mindful and careful.  Also be sure to have one eye on the sky,, especially if the weather is interchangeable on the day of the hike or the day before. Safety first! :) Follow the path further up and there will be a junction, you turn to left and up to Hundsheim.

Descent: From Hundsheim you descent the same way following the Lübecker way towards Sulzenauersee (glacier lake) and cross the Sulzenaubach stream over the  bridge.Be careful when descending towards to the bridge as it is can be slippery due to lot amount of snow. After crossing the bridge you continue the Stubai Höhenweg to Sulzenauhütte.

From the hut you follow the path to Grünausee. It is pretty straigthforward to come to the lake. After reaching the lake you come back the same way to the hut.

From hut you continue the same way you came up to the junction at 1780hm where you will see a marking saying "Bushaltestelle" or "Wilde Wasser Weg". Take the path to Bushaltestelle as it is gentler for the knees (especially if it starts to rain -  it  is recommended to go this way). The hike end is at Grawa Alm.
