Route Information
Parking
The route starts at Prionia, where you can park for free. Toilets are also available on the parking lot. A restaurant should also be open, even though opening hours in low season aren't the ones on Google Maps.
Stage 1: Parking > Muses Plateau
The ascent until 2450m is T1 to T2 trail, without any difficulty, most of the route is in the shady forest.
At the altitude of 2450m, you'll find a very recent via ferrata - we were the first one using it, it was being build when we passed there (Oct 2020). It corresponds to the T5 part showed on hiking buddies. Nothing difficult, no via ferrata gear required here. The Muses Plateau will be right after the ferrata.
Stage 2 - Muses Plateau > Olympus
You'll pass through two refuges located at the Muses Plateau. There's no more vegetation up there, it's pretty dry. No difficulty until the ascent to Olympus.
At km 7.3, you'll start the last ascent. A helmet is highly recommended from there until km 8 (end of t4 part). The ascent is very steep and rockfall can easily happen if you're with other people. As it's a popular peak, you'll most probably be following other persons, with high chances of loose rocks.
Stage 3 - Descent from Olympus (technical section)
The first part of the way down, until km 8, is pretty exposed as well. There's no cable to hold, sure footedness is enough. There are a lot of signs, it's very easy to find the way (when no snow).
Stage 4 - Rest of the way down
Nothing to say about the rest. There's a 3rd refuge on the way down. Mainly going trough the forest, no technical difficulty.
Note: We did this route the other way around (so imagine the photos going the other way), but it's probably better to do it in the described way, because of the ascent to Olympus. That steep part is definetely better to climb than to descend.
