  • Nördliche Riffelspitze (2242m)

The traverse of the Waxenstein ridge is rarely climbed and only done by experienced mountaineers, you have to be comfortable in climbing III+ up and down in exposed terrains.

For detailed route information till Gr. Waxenstein, please check the details here: Route. This page contains the detail from Gr. Waxenstein to the rest of the ridge.

From Gr. Waxenstein to Hinterer Waxenstein: Follow the normal descent route untill it goes down to the gully. Instead of following the gully down, continue up to the ridge. There is a stone man at the ridge to help you. From there you stay on the ridge bypassing some rocks on the South side. There is no summit cross or stone man at the summit.

From Hinterer Waxenstein to Schöneckspitze: There is rappel from the summit. From there you always stay on the left side of the ridge. Soon you arrive at the key point of the whole tour. There is a hook for the security. The next path looks horrible at first glance but you proceed a bit on the left. The key point is III+ and quite exposed. After this you walk on the ridge to the summit (very beautiful).

From Schöneckspitze to Schönangerspitze: You rappel down on the grassy ridge. There used to be a fixed rope there, which is broken now. From the ridge it's easy walk to Schönangerspitze without major difficulty.

From Schönangerspitze to Nördliche Riffelspitze: You keep following the ridge to Schönangersattel, rock is very brittle there. Then follow the North-East ridge to the summit (max difficulty: grade II)

From Nördliche Riffelspitze to Eibsee: From the Nördliche Riffelspitze, it's not difficult path to Südliche Riffelspitze. You always stay on the ridge. From Südliche Riffelspitze follow the marked path to Eibsee.
