<p>A nice and long hike to Schachen from Garmisch Partenkirchen.&nbsp;</p><p>This hike is not for beginners, as it involves T3 sections of the route.</p><p><b><i>Ascent</i></b>: From GaP towards Schachen via Partnachklamm and then taking the Kälbersteig to Scachen.&nbsp;</p><p><i>Note: If the Partnachklamm path is closed (usually during winter time) you can take the road uphill to Vordergrass and deschent via the path next to Kaiserschmmarn Alm back to Partnach where you will see the further marking to Schachen.&nbsp;</i></p><p>Following Kälbersteig you will reach the Schachenweg that leads you up to Schachenhaus. There is also a possibility to detour from the road and go down to Schachensee and then back (in Winter the lake is not visible due to snow).</p><p>Upon approaching Schachenhaus, there is a nice botanical garden and a really beautiful view point over the Wetterstein mountains.&nbsp;</p><p><b><i>Descent</i></b> is over the part Via alpina trail (route R-45)&nbsp; with somewhat steep sections secured with ropes and following the Reintalbach to Bockhütte and then turning right towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen.</p><p>Surefootedness, heads for heights and experience are required here. In winter times, only if you are really experienced winter hiker, otherwise not recommended.&nbsp;</p><p>If you do not feel comfortable coming down this way in winter (or for any other reason) you can descent the same way back to GaP or also opt to follow the Königsweg and signs to Elmau and then walking to Klais Bhf.</p><p>Hiking poles and gloves (for rope sections) are always good to have but not a must. In winter time poles are really helpful to make the hike more pleasurable. :)</p>

A nice and long hike to Schachen from Garmisch Partenkirchen.

This hike is not for beginners, as it involves T3 sections of the route.

Ascent: From GaP towards Schachen via Partnachklamm and then taking the Kälbersteig to Scachen.

Huts(s) along the way

There are a couple of huts along the way - on the way to Partnachklamm a couple smaller ones, at Vordergraseck as well. At the top is Schachenhaus and on descent Bockhütte.
