Very nice route, mostly single trail, with an exciting ridge after Heldenkreuz, which can be avoided in case you are scared of heights or exposed scrambling. Beware if moist or icy and/or snowy. When dry it's a lot of fun though.
Most of the path goes through the forest on a really nice trail which is very well suited for running. From Hirschberg you get really nice views of Murnau, München, Heimgarten, Herzogstand, Walchensee and Estergebirge and Zugspitze.
No huts.
Beware when wet or icy, then the ridge after Heldenkreuz can be very dangerous.
