Hoher Göll (2,522 m) is a very popular summit in Berchtesgaden, and offers great views Watzmann, Hochkalter, Dachstein etc. There are several routes to the summit, but some popular routes are:
- Mannlgrat steig (via ferrata B/C)
- Salzburger steig (the route can be icy in spring/early summer)
- Alpeltalsteig T4/I (see route details)
- From Torrenerjoch (long but beautiful tour)
The current route takes the Mannlgrat steig as ascent and Alpeltalsteig as descent.
Ascent: From the parking lot follow the broad forest toward Kehlstein (walking time approx. 1.5 - 2 hours). After that the path goes along the ridge. The path is marked very well with red dots, and difficult sections are secured with rope. Before Gölleiten an exposed chimney has to climbed. From there path follows on the wide flank and merges with the path on Salzberger steig. From here on follow the ridge to the summit.
Descent: See full description here.
Weather: At peak, Valley
Webcam: Kehlstein
Winter hike: If you attempt this tour in winter, you have to be very experienced. Beware of cornice on the ridge.
