The Baumgartenschneid is an extremely popular summit: the wonderful view over the Tegernsee, the large summit meadow and the easy approaches regularly attract many mountain hikers. On nice weekends it only gets quieter in the late afternoon, but only the evening hours are really lonely at Baumgartenschneid.
If the weather cooperates on the long evenings of the summer months, a visit to the Baumgartenschneid is particularly worthwhile: the sun then sets beyond the Tegernsee over the foothills of the Alps and ensures extremely atmospheric, lonely moments on the summit meadow in the last daylight.
From Tegernsee it goes in the evening over the Pfliegeleck to the Berggasthaus Galaun. Past the Riederstein, which is always worth a detour, it goes along the wooded Rohrkopf to Baumgartenschneid. The descent takes place after sunset, but in the last daylight past the Baumgartenalm to Sagfleckl. It is getting increasingly dark there, but the further descent via forest roads back to Tegernsee is unproblematic in the light of the headlamps.
