Schneibstein (2,276 m) is very famous mountain located at the border between Germany and Austria. The views of Dachstein, Steinernes Meer and Watzmann is just amazing from the top. In winter the summit is a very popular destination as skitour via Kleine Reibn and Grosse Reibn (multi days tour). If you plan to do this tour in winter with snowshoes, you should follow the same route for descent as ascent.
Ascent: The tour starts at Hinterbrand parking lot (parking fee 3 EUR). Follow the initial prepared ski slope to Jenner. After arriving at Mitterkaser Alm, leave the prepared slope to Jenner and continue towards Carl von Stahl Haus. From there the path becomes a bit steep and sometimes icy depending on conditions. So kick turns skills are absolute necessary (ski crampons might be useful). After several zigzags, you arrive at the summit which is quite flat and there are two small summit cross.
Descent: Follow the kleine Reibn path. Be careful there are several variants and ski tracks might lead to one of them. There are several steep slopes need to be traversed, so safe avalanche conditions are necessary. If you are planning to do this tour with snowshoes, you can skip the descent and follow the ascent to come down.
