This route covers the following thee peaks in Tannheim alps. They offer great views if Bavarian foreland and Haldensee.
The route requires navigation in not so well marked route, scrambling of grade 1+, and familiarity with grade B klettersteig.
Reaching the start point: The route can be done in either direction. Therefor the starting point could be Musau or Nesselwängle west. The latter is slightly preferable.
For Nesselwängle west:
Munich --> Reutte in Tirol (RB) --> Nesselwängle west (bus 120)
For Musau:
Munich --> Musau (RB)
The cheapest option is to buy Werdenfels ticket. However, it does not cover the bus from Reutte to Nesselwängle west.
Ascent: From the bus stop, there is an easy zig-zag route to Gimpelhaus. Since all other huts in the route are after the third peak, it might make sense to have a small break here.
From the hut, we take the path towards Gimpel. After a few hundred meters, we reach a path through gravel field known as Gimpelkar. The path takes us very close to the rocky wall, and from here the helmet is strongly recommended.
At a signpost we see the route to Gimpel towards right and the route to Rote Flüh towards left. We take the right route. In the beginning, it's mostly grade 1 scrambling. However, the red marks are not always very visible. Therefore, one needs to be careful. The first gully requires 1+ scrambling, but really exposed. Afterwards, a simple zigzag leads to plateau, from where the peak is already visible. The path is easy to recognize from here, and the difficult never exceeds grade 1.
From Gimpel we descent using the same path, and then at the signpost turn left to Rote Flüh. The path is easy with gentle slope, and some sections are secured with cable.
From Rote Flüh to Scharschrofen, the path is very well marked, which is a normal T3 hiking path in the beginning with occasional via ferrata sections during descent, and then becomes a grade B via ferrata during ascent.
Both from Rote Flüh and Schartschrofen, there are excellent views to Haldensee.
Descent: From Schartschrofen, there is an easy T2 trail to Fuessner huette, Otto Mayr huette, and Musauer alm. The path from here to Musau is mostly along a flat mountain bike road, except towards the end, which is a T2 zig zag path in forest.
If one is not fond of long walks on bike road, an alternative could be to continue from Schartschrofen to Fuessner jocle, and take the cable car from there to Gran (last cable car departs at 4:30 pm).
