An extended hike in the German Karwendel region, including the Westliche Karwendelspitze, the Karwendelsteig belonging to it and the Dammkar.
The first part of the tour - the way to the Hochlandhütte - goes on a not particularly nice wide path next to a river. The path consists of relatively big stones and is getting steep as one proceeds higher in the mountain, so it is not really fun to walk. It was probably made for the special vehicle that delivers stuff to the Hochlandhütte which is parked atits end. Soon afterwards the trails takes one to the hut itself which is nicely positioned on a "plateau". Here a break for getting some sun and something to eat makes sense.
The next part of the route i smore exciting, with the trail getting on a rocky terrain soon after leaving the hut and going among the quite beautiful Karwendel rocky peaks.Highlights of this part are the Predigtstuhl and Dammkar. At the end of the rather long and (beware) not easy to walk Dammkar the tunnel leads the way to Westliche Karwendelspitze. From there the view is stunning, with the wall basically "falling" vertically down. From the peak one can also see wonderfully the start of the Mittenwalder Höhenweg.
From here one can of course also take the cable car down and save themselves the desce. The option in the GPX track is descending on the Karwendelsteig. This involves quite some scambling which might be more complex on the way down and definetely requires time and sure-footedness. After the Mittenwalder hut the route becomes a trail in the forest (still steep though) and with that the exciting part is done.
The route can be also done in the other direction.
