One should check avalance risk before undertaking this route. The last part to the peak is avalance prone.
An easy winter hike which offers beautiful views of winter landscape and Hoher Ifen.
The route passes by Schwarzwassertal and Schwarzwasserhuette, which can be a nice place to have a break and enjoy some Kaiserschmarn.
Reaching the start point: It is always possible to reach the starting point by car, but given that during peak ski season the parking area is almost always full, it might be a better idea to use public transport, although it requires a few changes - One can take the regional train to Oberstdorf, and then a combination of buses (Bus 1 from Oberstdorf to Kanzelwandbahn, and then Bus 5 from there to Ifen)
Ascent: The path from start point to the hut is a nice wide path. You can find some skiers on this path, but since it's not a piste, it is usually quiet there. The path up to Alpe Melkode is very flat, and after that we encounter some gentle slope.
From the hut, the peak is already visible. There is a very visible path which leads to the peak. Apart from a couple of small steep sections, this path is also beginner friendly. However, one must check the avalance risk before undertaking this route, as the last part to the peak is avalance prone.
From the peak one can enjoy views of surrounding mountains such as Kanzelwand, Hoher Ifen, Hählekopf .
Descent: The same as ascent
