Weißkugel (3,738 m) is the third highest mountain of Austria and it's the highest point of the border between Italy and Austria. The peak is not well known compared to Wildspitze. All normal routes meet at Hintereisjoch. From Vent the tour is very long and it's recommended to split it in 2 days with an overnight stay at the hut.
Ascent: The tour starts from Rofen parking lot (no fees). You always stay on the right side of the stream until you arrive at the hut. In winter, the path can be icy so extra precautions must be taken.
From the hut the path goes down a bit and goes next the stream until you arrive at the beginning of Hintereisferner glacier. Follow the very long glacier traverse until the path merges to the other normal paths from Rifugio Bella Vista and Weisskugeljoch. After arriving at the Hintereisjoch turn right towards the summit slope. There are some steep sections in the glacier (sometimes also icy). The last part to the summit is on a ridge that requires UIAA I+ climbing on exposed parts.
Descent: Same as ascent.
Weather: Summit
Gear: Ice axe, crampons, rope, helmet etc.
