Schrankogel (3,497 m) is the second highest mountain of Stubai Alps after Zuckerhütl. The route over the East summit ridge offers an alpine challenge especially in winter. Depending upon the conditions the ascent can be very difficult or even impossible. There might be cornices on the last part of the summit ridge. In winter you will need snowshoes or touren ski.

Ascent: The starting point of the hike is Gries parking lot (3 EUR parking fee). At the beginning, follow the wide forest road towards Amberger Hütte. From the hut, follow the flat valley till the end and then turn left toward Schwarzenberg valley. After some steep sections, you will arrive at the ridge where you have Schwarzenbergferner on the right. Soon you will see a sign pointing to the East ridge, that's the ski depot in winter. And from there you walk on the ridge. At the beginning the ridge is wide but as you approach the summit it becomes narrow and exposed. From the summit you have beautiful views all around.

Descent: Same as ascent.
