Hintere Schwärze (3,628 m) is the fifth highest summit in Austria. It's not very popular due to a more popular neighbouring peak Similaun. The normal route to Hintere Schwärze goes over highly crevassed glacier. In good conditions it's a moderate glacier climb that can also be done as skitour.

Ascent: From Vent follow the forest road towards Martin-Busch-Hütte. In summer you can follow the marked path towards Marzellferner glacier. However, in winter that's too dangerous, so it's better to descent all the way to stream and follow the stream to the glacier. Follow the glacier for a very long time. After a long traverse you can see the North face of the summit. The last part of the normal route goes on the right of the North face until you arrive at the summit ridge. The summit ridge is very exposed and requires scrambling upto grade 2.

Descent: Same as ascent.
