The route starts in Santa Cristina, which is just one hour away by bus from Bolzano. What follows is an easy but longish ascent crossing Seiser Alm, a beautiful high-altitude Alpine meadow, that goes to the foot of the Langkofel group to which Plattkofel belongs as well. The path gets slightly more technical up to Rifugio Vicenza / Langkofel hut and then towards the Plattkofel "cirque". At the end of the latter, the rather easy Oscar Schuster via ferrata starts (up to B). Remark: It is marked with grey crosses on the map, however it cannot be selected, which is why the way goes back and around the mountain. The actual distance is hence much shorter.
After the peak, we go down the normal route. We can either choose to stay at the private Plattkofel hut or in the nearby Rifugio Sandro Pertini, which is much smaller but also cheaper as it is a CAI hut. At the time of writing, the Rifugio has not yet found a new landlord so it might not be available in June. Instead, we continue to Tierser Alpl Hut to be more flexible on day 2.
