Signalkuppe / Punta Gnifetti (4,554 m) is the 6th highest mountain of Alps and has the highest hut in Alps. From the summit you have the best views of the most important peaks of Alps like: Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Lyskamm, Dent Blanche, Dom etc.
Ascent: From Staffal parking lot, you can take the cable car that leave you at around 3250m. Alternatively, you can also go up on long way through Orestes Hütte. From the cable car stop, you arrive at Rifugio Mantova followed by Rifugio Gnifetti. From there you have to walk all the way on glacier which is very crevassed and must be done only by experienced alpinists. After Colle Del Lys the path goes slightly down and finally it becomes very steep and even icy depending upon conditions.
Descent: Same as ascent, you can cover Balmenhorn on the way down which requires grade 2 scrambling on exposed rocks but there there is a fixed rope and hooks for footholds.
