The tour starts and ends in Neuhaus, which is well reachable by train: Just around 1 hour from Munich with the train going every 30 minutes.
During this hike you spend quite some time along the ridge and reach 8 peaks. The most difficult section is between Wasserspitz and Bodenschneid, where the track is rather T4 than T3 and even involves a II scrambling section just before Bodenschneid. It's easy to skip it though by descending 10 m to use the regular path from Bodenschneid hut.
Not recommended hence with wet or unsafe conditions hence.
After the ridge part the hike ends with some highlights:
- You should absolutely stop at Albert Link hut where they serve a lot of nice food such as Kaiserschmarrn and homemade products. The bread they're baking here is the one that you can buy at Schuster in Munich for instance.
- After the hut, you walk halfway around beautiful Spitzingsee.
- On the way down to Neuhaus you come along the Josefstal waterfalls.
Of course you can decide for just a couple of sections or variations of this hike, e.g.:
- Leave the ridge after Bodenschneid and descend to Obere Firstalm. From there you can either go down to Spitzingsee directly or climb up once more towards Brecherspitz (okay, that's actually not according to the name of the hike so beware!).
- Descend directly from Roßkopf towards Albert Link hut passing Grünsee.
- Take the bus from Spitzingsee to Neuhaus or Schliersee, i.e. skip the descent back into the valley.
