The Große Hafner (3076m) is one of the easternmost 3000m in Austria and is located in the Ankogel Group on the border between Salzburg and Carinthia in the Hohe Tauern National Park. On the normal route, it is climbed from the Maltatal on the south side.

To conquer the Great Hafner on the normal route, you have to overcome some climbing points on the beautiful, elongated summit ridge. These are a bit exposed, but should be well insured with ropes. Watch out for stable weather and avoid the Great Hafner when the rock is wet.
