The Schönfeldspitze (2653m) is the second highest peak of the Steinernes Meer in the Berchtesgaden Alps after the Selbhorn (2655m) and is widely known for its special summit cross. Sporty fit hikers manage the tour in one day, but usually stay overnight in the friendly catered Riemannhaus before the summit climb. The path is quite demanding but very well secured in the difficult places with steel ropes (new marking & steel ropes 2019).

Already for the approach to the Riemannhaus via the Ramseidersteig you should be free from giddiness and sure-footed. From the Riemannhaus it then becomes more demanding towards the summit and you should master small climbing sections in the 1st degree of difficulty and - especially at the key point just below the summit - be absolutely free of giddiness.

Alternatively, you can also use the descent described here (via Buchauer Scharte) as an ascent. Then the route is less exposed, but significantly longer. No matter which route you choose, a really great tour! Varied, amazing views, wild nature and finally the hut stop.

Navi address: Sandten parking lot, 5761 Maria Alm, Austria - Alternatively: Griesbachwinkl 85, 5761 Maria Alm, Austria - Follow the road uphill, then a little later turn right onto the forest road at the barrier - follow this until you reach the large parking lot at the end of the forest road!
