Krumbacher Höhenweg is the hut to hut tour from Fiderepasshuette to Mindelheimer huette. The route passes almost parallel to Mindelheimer ferrata, but at a lower altitude with no technical difficulties, while still offering beautiful views of Allgau alps.

Reaching the start point: It is recommended to use a carpool for this hike as the public transport option is not very smooth - one needs to take a regional train from Munich to Oberstdorf, from where one can take Bus No 1 to Mittelberg, which is the start and end point of the hike.

For the train journey it is best to buy Regio-Ticket Allgäu-Schwaben ticket which is slightly cheaper than Bayern ticket. This does not cover the bus ride. However, there is a 50% discount on bus for a group of 10 or more people.

Mittelberg to Fiderepass huette: From the Mittelberg station, we descent approximately 50m before crossing a bridge. After the bridge the follow the wide mountain road as long as it goes. At the end of this road, we have a bifurcation - the left route goes to Fiderepass huette, while the right one goes to Mindelheimer huette. Take the left route and follow it all along to Fiderepass huette. This part of the route has no technical difficulties.

Fiderepass huette to Mindelheimer huette: From Fiderepasshuette, hike up to Fiderepass scharte, which is probably the highest part of the route. Here you see a sign for Mindelheimer huette. After descending approximately 100 meters, the route runs parallel to Mindelheimer ferrata on right. This part of the route is known as Krumbacher Höhenweg and offers beautiful views of Allgaeu ridge on the left.

Mindelheimer huette to Mittelberg: From mindelheimer huette turn sharp right and hike up. Here one could also make a small detour and climb Kemptner kopf only at the expense of extra 20-30 minutes. The descent from here is the only technical part of the route. Although not difficult, but one needs to be careful during wet and snowy conditions. After the steep zigzag descent one reaches a plateau. After some walk on the flat terrain another descent starts which passes through a beautiful waterfall. At the end of this descent, we reach the same point where wide mountain road bifurcated, which we encountered during ascent. Follow this road to Mittelberg.
