This route can be an alternative to the Uetliberg climb for those looking for something near to Zurich. its on the same "Albisketten", offers calmer trails and nice views. Notice that it offers a lot more height meters then Uetliberg hike (due to lower start, higher end + additional smaller climb afterwards)
This route starts at the S4 trainstation Wildpark Hofli.
It goes up trough the Tierpark Langenberg, then up to Albis trough a little known walking path. The peak is higher than Uetliberg. Then we walk along the Albis for a few kilometer to the Hochwacht Albis (watchtower Albis) from where you get great views over the entire area (highest point 900m) (views 360 towards lake Zug, lake Zurich, Zurich city, with Alps in the distance on a clear day).
There is NO entry fee for the tier park, the paths are free.
The route is one of the lessor known paths up to the Albis. Once passed the Tierpark, you need to walk a short while on the pave walk next to the road, and then enter the forest area on a small single trail side path which is not clearly visible and easily missed. Google and other maps do not show this small hiking trail, but it is on official walking path marked on the official maps from the Sihlwald. You will then connect after 10 minutes to a larger walking path/forest road, which goes all the way up to the top of the Albis (896m in that area). You end up reaching the top near to the Weather station (radar station). From there you follow the main path that goes all along the Albiskette. We take a small side path in the direction of the Albishaus, and get some nice views of the Zug area (lake zug, zugerberg etc). From there some downhill on a paved road, crossing the main road and back uphill to the Hochwacht. You can climb up the watchtower, get some nice views etc. We continue on the albis path, going down shortly after (after passing some very old ruins), going down into the Sihlwald and ultimately reaching the bustop "Unterrengg" from where you can take a busride down to the Langnau Gattikon train station (just 4 minutes). A train goes to Zurich every 20 minutes and during peak times every 10 minutes. About 20 minutes to HB.
