The Verwall Group is located in the Central Eastern Alps and forms a triangle between Bludenz in the west, Landeck in the east and the Silvretta in the south. Gneisses and hornblende rocks form the main and basic mass of this mountain range. The landscape of the Verwall Group offers alpine hikers many opportunities for multi day tours to enjoy.
Nestled between the Lechtal Alps and the Verwall Group is the holiday resort of St. Anton am Arlberg in the beautiful Stanzer Valley in Tyrol. Magnificent peaks, idyllic mountain lakes and picturesque alpine pastures - hiking or mountain biking are the best ways to explore the wonderful natural destinations. From here we start hiking along Moostal till we reach Kartellsee. The Kartellsee hits you with its spectacular water colors. The lake could easily be in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, gorgeous! Here you often can spot we hermeline and other wildlife. After enjoying the lake, we hike uphill along the Sepp Jöchler Weg to the rocky Seßladjoch (2,750 m), where we have magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and the Kartellferner glacier. From the yoke we descend to the Niederelbehütte, which is already visible. Further east on Sepp Jöchler Weg till we reach Seßladalpe and finally the place where we will spent the night. Niederelbehütte.
The idyllically located Niederelbehütte is a stage destination on the Verwall Tour, one of the most beautiful high-altitude trails in the Alps and a highlight with magnificent mountain views. The Niederelbehütte is right next to the picturesque Seßsee in the beautiful hiking region of the Verwall Group in Paznaun near Ischgl.
If you want to really enjoy the atmosphere of this mountain landscape, stay the night.
The Niederelbehütte is located at an altitude of 2,310 meters on a ridge in the Verwall group, surrounded by two mountain lakes in the upper Sesslad valley and waterfalls. It was awarded the environmental seal of approval. We can summit in short time Kappler Kopf that gives a fantastic view to the Paznautal.
From the Niederelbehütte , the "Hoppe-Seyler-Weg" first takes us a short distance south, then at the turn-off into the Paznauntal we head south-west. Now it goes into the Fatlarkar and from there over a rock step (danger of falling rocks!) and in a few hairpin bends up to the Obere Fatlarscharte (below the Fatlarspitze, 2986 m), where the Kieler Wetterhütte (brick bivouac box) is located.
On the other side of the col, a bit tricky, over a steep step (safety rope) to the south to the fork in the path that leads to Versahl. In hairpin bends we climb north-west. up to the Schneidjöchli. We will try to summit Saumspitze (3039 m).
Almost 50 meters below the yoke, the final ascent to the summit branches off to the left and follows the red markings from the cirque through rocky terrain to the promising Saumspitze. On some easy climbing sections (I) the hands are used. The turquoise Kartellspeicher is at your feet, the view sweeps across the hut to the Kuchlspitze, the Kuchlspitze and the Scheibler. Out of the valley, the entire Moostal is overlooked. We go down the peak till Schneidjöchl and then through Blockwerk and over Schrofen down to a junction, till Darmstadter Hütte. After a well deserved pause there, we go down till Kartellsee and finally St. Anton ending a beautiful intense 2 days tour.
