Beautiful ridge climb to the second mighty peak near Königssee - the Hoher Göll. The elevator first takes you up to the historic Kehlsteinhaus. From the Kehlsteinhaus, the via ferrata can be reached in about 20 minutes - the ferrata then leads like a burr, with short crispy steep passages up to the so-called Rauchfang. From there you follow the wide scree ridge up to the summit of the Hoher Göll. On the descent, you can either take the normal route through the Alpeltal or descend to the Purtschellerhaus via the Schuster route. No matter what you choose, you will be rewarded with a famous summit and perfect Watzmann views!
Exact route description:
See topo. The via ferrata runs in the beginning in a steady up and down (short passages A/B, scramble up to 1, but mostly easier) along the Mannlgrat. After two striking hole passages, the ferrata becomes more difficult. Short, sometimes quite crisp passages (up to C and unsecured up to 1) must be overcome (also passages to be scrambled). You come to a large cauldron and then to the final step (B/C). In a gully (B/C) you reach the ridge and climb up to the so-called Rauch fang (2245 m; junction Schustersteig). From there on the marked hiking trail up to Hoher Göll (270 Hm;¾ hr).
Equipment:
Via ferrata equipment and helmet; possibly safety rope for children and weaker walkers. Sticks for scree, enough to drink as there are no refill possibilities.
