Let´s make a good use of this fantastic autumn weather for another great trip to mountains!
We go to explore Tannheimertal valley, one of the most beautiful high mountain valley in Europe. We start from Vilsalpsee, one of the most impressive lakes in Tyrol included in a nature reserve that is an important habitat for rare plants and animals as the mountain salamander and the European toad.
We start at the parking lot at Vilsalpsee and follow the path on the right bank of the lake. The first two kilometers are therefore quite flat until we reach the Vils Alpe. Here we keep to the right and immediately the ascent begins. This leads first on a stony path, later on meadows, sometimes here are quite steep passages to deal with. Thanks to the sparse forest, the ascent is complete without any shade and the view of the Vilsalpsee is really impressive.
After about 1:30 h we reach the fork in the road, where we keep left towards Schrecksee. Now follows a more or less flat piece along the rock slope below the Rauhhorn. In order to continue on the other side of the mountain range in the direction of Schrecksee, there is still a small climb up to the Scharte. Here it goes right to Rauhhorn, left there are two possibilities in the direction of Schrecksee. We go for the upper variant and get after a short time a magnificent view of Schrecksee with its small island. After a few smaller cliques comes a fork in the road, either down to the lake or straight on towards Kirchendach saddle. We go down till we reach the shores of Schrecksee to experience it from very close this pearl. After refreshment, we go up again till after about 45 minutes we reach the turnoff to the Steinkarspitze or further towards the Rote Spitze. Optionally we can climb also Steinkarspitze to the right really close to it. With a view of the Landsberger Hütte we finally make the relatively easy climb to the Rote Spitze. From the top we get a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding peaks of Tanneheimertal. The descent takes place on the same path to the saddle, then follows the descent on the left in the direction of Landsberger hut, where an intermediate reinforcement is possible. From the hut we descend then the partially secured path in the direction of Traualpsee. From Traualpsee it then goes the last altitude to Vilsalpsee, where we finally turn on the roundabout right and again go to the parking lot.
