Zugspitze (2962 m) is the highest mountain of Germany. There are 5 official routes to Zugspitze:
1. Reintal from Garmisch-Partenkirchen (T4, I)
2. Gatterl from Ehrwald (T3, I)
3. Stops from Ehrwald (T4, A/B, I)
4. Hoellental from Hammersbach (T3, C, II)
5. Jubliaumsgrat (T6, C/D, III)

Ascent: For this route we chose the Gatterl route to go up. The route starts from Ehrwald, in the beginning you have to follow a broad forest road to Ehrwald Alm. After the hut you follow ski slopes before turning left towards gatterl. This part might be exhausting depending on the snow conditions. There are steep slopes which must be traversed. On a sunny hot days it can be risky for avalanches. Just before the gatterl you have very steep slopes, and the cables might be hidden under the snow. You have to be very careful in this part as any mistake here can be fatal.

After gatterl you again have to traverse steep slopes for a little while before a big platue towards zugspitzplatz. Then follow the steep ski slope to zugspitzplatz. From there starts the real ascent to zugspitze. In this section you need crampons and ice axe since its really steep. Any mistake in this section can be deadly. On sunny day be careful with the melting snow. After the steep climb you arrive at the ridge. Follow the ridge all the way to zugspitze.

Descent: Follow the same path to Knorhutte. Then towards reintal beautiful valley with mountains on both sides and full of waterfalls and streams. This route is pretty long and if you plan to use this route on descent, make sure you have enough time to arrive at Garmisch-Partenkirchen before dark. Also don't forget to check the opening hours of partnachklamm. You can't go through it if it's closed.
