Let´s go to a less frequented route in Chiemgau offering beautiful views towards Berchtesgadenerland as well and several lakes on the way. From Café Zwing we go in direction of Falkensee but we take a detour through a small path that brings us to Kleiner and Grösser Turm, two impressive rock formations that tower above the vallley. We comes out at the top of the ridge at the Weittal service hut. The Weißbach rises here.
The Weißbachquelle is definitely worth a short detour!
The tower path was consistently tracked, although very narrow, overgrown and bit exposed in places.
The Small Tower can be seen from a distance and a perfectly reflecting Falkensee especially for almost the entire climb! The Turmsteig is well cut in the grass altough being very narrow.
The Great Tower with a cross becomes visible. The window structures in the transition are interesting. Kienbergl and Falkenstein become visible too. A cave on the side of the path can be seen. On this section a rope helps to climb up the steep way. Finally we reach the Gruberhörndl where you have a beautiful overview of Falkensee, Falkenstein and Krottensee.
We go furhter east towards the Summits of the Gruberhörndl with Kohlalm and Gamsknogel, our next goals. Watzmann and Hochkalter are visible from Gamsknogel. We get then to Zwiesel and Zennokopf. From here after enjoying the great views we head down towards the Frillensee. Nestled in the forest and surrounded by the Chiemgau Alps, you can enjoy absolute peace in this special place. Take a moment and let your gaze wander over the lake. The Staufen massif rises impressively in the background. From the east bank, the path leads around Germany's coldest lake. A board provides information about Inzell's speed skating history, which began here. It is not for nothing that Frillensee is considered the cradle of speed skating.
After a final look over the lake, we follow the forest path along the small river Frillenseebach. Accompanied by the sound of the stream, you follow the path till the Forsthaus Adlgaß where we can drink and eat something and rest a bit before taking the path back to Inzell.
