The tour is nice for an autumn hike, whenever the days are too short and terrain too snowy/icy to go for Watzmann itself. You are rewarded with a nice view on full Watzmann family, and amazing autumn colors.
To spice things up a bit, ascent is going via the Grünstein Klettersteig. Grünsteinklettersteig (via ferrata) has an easy option (grades up to C), and a couple of harder options (grades up to E). You can find topos here: https://www.bergsteigen.com/touren/klettersteig/gruenstein-klettersteig-mit-var-isidor/ Via ferrata is closed from November (last day open in 2018 was 04.11) till beginning of April. Alternatively, there is also a normal way to Grünstein, shortly after the ferrata approach.
An easy forest path with small ups and downs goes from Grünstein to Kühroint Alm and Kührointhütte. From there, a short detour (ca. 30 mins) to Archenkanzel with great views on Königssee in possible.
The path from Kühroint Alm to Watzmannhaus goes via a short Falzsteig, which is partly secured with steel cables (T4).
